Zig-Zagging in Gold Canyon

Springtime in the desert is simply the best. Mid-March is always so enticing to skip work & go play outside. I had some time built up, so I did just that. I took a 1/2 day and headed east to Gold Canyon. There was a newly constructed trail I wanted to check out along with some trailwork on another. What followed was 4 1/2 hours of meandering bliss.
Heading east on the Lost Goldmine trail past the K-trail split.
Towering cliffs & cholla forest along the Wilderness boundary.
First of two desert tortoises I came across.
Which one is the rock?
Cool viewing bench atop Holy Hill.
A slice of Sedona in Gold Canyon.
The Vortex sure would make a nice camping spot on a bikepacking ride!!!
The shadows begin to creep into the Superstitions.
These fellas hold your attention on the trails.
I still had to work my evening shift, so I was cut short due to time to include every trail in the network only missing out on the far eastern 2 miles of Lost Goldmine & the Quartz Ridge loop.

  1. Damn John that's a lot of twisting around in GC. Its not easy to string together 27 miles out there. We have been checking out the south side of Paralta Rd. There is about another 7 miles or so out there on dirt roads, Nice Job.
