Sierra Vista: Miller Canyon

February arrived and so did Singlespeed Arizona, SSAZ, weekend!! I had been looking forward to this shindig for the past year. Riding new terrain in the Dragoon Mtns...make that, Bisbee, AZ!! Long story, so we'll save that for the next post...

In the meantime, Arturo and I carpooled south to our generous #loco hosts, Shannon & Beto in Sierra Vista. We arrived early enough for a short SSAZ kickoff ride on their home turf. Beto mapped out a route and we were off...climbing up Miller Canyon.

The grade wasn't too bad on the singlespeed Voodoo, but the added elevation and residual crud in my lungs made it more challenging that need be. The views were fantastic though and before we knew it we reached the saddle, very close to our summit point.
Shannon was trying out her SSAZ outfit.

Frozen waterfall.

Hey! Here comes Arturo!! 2nd ride in a year?!? Ha!

Beto's ready for some singletrack.

What a beautiful trail. Loved it.

Leads right to the Wilderness boundary before pointing us downhill.

Time to drop all the way back down there.

Unicorns & rainbows for everyone!!

Just enough rocks to keep you honest.

There's something magical when singletrack and boulders merge.

So glad Arturo put that jacket over his gawd awful jersey!!
The main downhill dumped us out at a trailhead where another ripping section of trail followed a creek out to the highway. What a hoot and great way to finish the ride. A couple fast pavement miles back to the car and the loop was complete right at sunset. Perfecto!! Great introductory route, Beto. Looking forward to more miles in Sierra Vista.

We then went on the hunt for ice cream and got shut out by missing the store hours by a little bit. Grocery store to the rescue, bring on the Tillamook!!

Later that evening we went over to Bisbee to take in some the SSAZ shenanigans and hang out with friends. As soon as we arrived Flagstaff's Thee Deores were on stage playing a tune that resonated with all of us: I ain't got shit to do, you ain't got shit to do, Yeah, yeah, yeah!! Going Bikin'!! Haha.

It was so good to catch up with a bunch of friends I don't see nearly enough. The place was hopping, food truck was packed and everyone was having a good time. The next day's ride would surely be entertaining....
